A report came out from China this morning about a deal on how Tesla will construct the Gigafactory, currently, there is one Gigafactory in Nevada USA.

But now it seems Tesla has confirmed the deal and says the first cars will be done in 2 years and start the construction in the near future.

Here’s the message from Tesla spokesperson sent to Electrek:

“Last year, we announced that we were working with the Shanghai Municipal Government to explore the possibility of establishing a factory in the region to serve the Chinese market. Today, we’ve signed a Cooperative Agreement for Tesla to start building Gigafactory 3, a new electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Shanghai.

We expect construction to begin in the near future after we get all the necessary approvals and permits. From there, it will take roughly two years until we start producing vehicles and then another two to three years before the factory is fully ramped up to produce around 500,000 vehicles per year for Chinese customers. Tesla is deeply committed to the Chinese market, and we look forward to building even more cars for our customers here.

Today’s announcement will not impact our U.S. manufacturing operations, which continue to grow.”

The Tesla gigafactory plans to have the capacity to build 500,000 electric vehicles per year. Today Tesla builds all their cars in Fremont California.

Seems like a good plan to start making the cars in China after the trade wars between USA and China so producing them in would be a good investment to cut down the costs and sell directly to the China market.

According to Bloomberg Elon Musk also said they have plans to build a plant in Europe as well.

What do you think of this and Tesla’s future?
